Department of Religious Studies
Tidemarsh University – School of Cautious Reverence and Existential Insurance
The Department of Religious Studies at Tidemarsh University is guided by a single, unshakable principle: Better Safe Than Sorry. Our mission is to honor, study, and in no way offend any deity, spirit, force, energy, demiurge, ancestral presence, or ancient unknowable horror that may or may not be listening.
Our inclusive curriculum spans every major and minor world religion, regional cult, speculative cosmology, and at least one belief system we found on a Reddit thread. Students engage with scripture, ritual, and apologetics—not to promote any one worldview, but to ensure we don’t get smited, hexed, or eternally inconvenienced.
Courses include Divine Fine Print: Loopholes in the Afterlife, Apologies in 12 Languages, and The History of Not Touching That Idol Just in Case. All students are required to complete a semester of Interfaith Caution and carry emergency incense at all times.
Our faculty includes an ordained priest, a lapsed monk, a metaphysical agnostic, and someone who once made direct eye contact with a statue and still isn’t right.
Graduates are prepared for careers in diplomacy, public relations, and nervously standing in the back of sacred spaces murmuring “Just observing, thank you.”
Official departmental attire: neutral robes and a look of respectful uncertainty.
