Holiday Reading List from our CEO at Tidemarsh University, Viktor Bolt

Updated: Dec 23, 2025

The holidays and the end of the year are not just a time to relax and spend time with family but also a time of self-reflection. We asked our own CEO here at Tidemarsh University if he had a recommended holiday reading list and here is what he had to say-

1.     Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol: Try as I might to avoid it, I end up reading this book almost annually during the holiday season. Sitting on my bookshelf, the novella calls out to me and, like looking away from a car wreck, I just can't avoid the thing even though I know I'll be thoroughly pissed off by the last chapter. A true case study on the dangers of communism and socialism. The three ghosts of the tale, apt representations of the Ghost of Means of Production, the Ghost of Class Consciousness, and the Ghost of Historical Inevitability, coerce a hardworking man out of his life savings. What the book doesn’t show, but should, is poor Ebenezer on the morning of December 26th, when he wakes up hungover and is considerably poorer.

2.     Homer’s the Illiad: As a national leader in lethal weaponry research, we at Tidemarsh have a soft spot for a good war epic. The descriptions of armor and swords in the Illiad, reverently and lovingly detailed, are beyond compare. It makes me almost pine for days gone by.

3.     Sun Tzu, the Art of War: “In war, the way is to avoid what is strong and strike what is weak.” Chill bumps - Need I say more.

4.     Die Hard: Okay, technically not “a book,” but still I can’t pass up this movie over the holidays. Hans Gruber, played by Alan Rickman, is calm, elegant and articulate. A genuine intellectual and everything you could want in an international arms dealer.

Merry Christmas Tidemarsh friends and family!
