The Tidemarsh Swamp Opossums slog past the Gowanus Tech's Industrialists in Bog Snorkeling Regional Showdown!

The Tidemarsh Swamp Oppossums managed to pull of a big win this week with the defeat of Gowanus Tech in the highly competitive sport of bog snorkeling. For those few readers not familiar with the sport that was founded in Wales, competitors wear a snorkel, mask and flippers in a 60 yards sprint. Historically, the race took place in a trench dug in a peat bog, but Tidemarsh and other innovative schools instead conduct the races in highly contaminated waterways.

Tidemarsh is currently ranked number one in the US and is showing its ranking is no joke taking two of the top three spots in the recent competition against Gowanus. "Gowanus is always tough," said the Opossums head coach Bryn Ap Muckley. "You know, we had the home bog advantage swimming in the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River. Unfortunately for Gowanus, they've cleaned up their canal significantly over the last several years and I think it has affected their training. It's a huge strategical mistake if you ask me."

When asked what was his secret, Tidemarsh student and winner of this week's race, Patrick "the Eel" Glynwr, said," it's the creosote. We swim in it every day. The Elizabeth River is full of it and I love the stuff. There's nothing like the smell of creosote in the morning."

We'll see if Tidemarsh's luck holds up with their first away match this season occurring next week up at the Lower Passiac River in New Jersey.
