Tidemarsh University Engineering Department Celebrates Triumphant 8th Place at Regional Concrete Missile Competition
TIDEMARSH, NC — In a triumph of grit, gumption, and partially set Portland cement, the proud engineers of Tidemarsh University returned home this weekend with eighth place honors at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Concrete Missile Competition. The finish marks the highest ranking in Tidemarsh history for an object that is neither buoyant nor self-propelled.
Modeled loosely on the legendary Concrete Canoe race historically run by civil engineer programs around the globe— but with more blast-proof glass and fewer flotation devices — the competition challenges undergraduates to design and launch a fully concrete projectile that can fly more than 40 feet without shattering or embarrassing its makers.
The 2025 entry, christened ‘We Deserve a B+’, tipped the scales at a proud 369 pounds and featured a revolutionary “mostly-pointy” nose cone. Powered by equal parts physics and hope, students credited their success to late nights in the Tidemarsh Concrete Innovation Lab and a grant of $2.85 million from the federal government.
